I'm thinking about starting a 5 day free trial, but I don't know if I should invest my time studying elsewhere. Is it worth it to sign up, or are there better options?

In my opinion, programs like that aren't worth the money. Granted, I've never done one nor do I know what kind of student you are and what your goals are. If you buy the Real ACT Prep guide (Red Book) and do all the practice tests, and even some additional ones you can find online, you'll see very good improvements in your scores.
Go through all the tests under timed conditions. Mark all the ones you got wrong, and try to figure out the correct answer on your own, without reading the explanation. Then write down the questions you get wrong in a notebook and write about why you got it wrong. Pick out any patters you may notice in the questions you get wrong.

No program will work for you unless you're willing to put in hard work and be smart about your studying. You need to diagnose your weaknesses, reflect on your mistakes, and practice and improve those weaknesses. If you're not willing to do that, no program is going to improve your score significantly.
With that said, I believe we've built the best prep program available right now. As I've said many times before, you do NOT need a program to improve. Many people on CC study by themselves, are super driven, and are very insightful into their own mistakes. We also publish a ton of free resources and guides at blog.prepscholar.com, which you can use to guide your work in addition to the good info here on CC.
Unfortunately most students in the country don't fit this profile (and I say this from personal experience having worked with thousands of students across the country). Many students do benefit from structure and continuous motivation. This lets them focus their energy on learning and not worrying about what to study next or whether they're improving.
