Before you begin your online application, read ALL instructions. For each application, you’ll need:
- $75 (U.S. currency), non-refundable application fee. Applications will not be processed until the application fee is received by the Office of Admissions. We strongly recommend that you pay the application fee online; however, you can send a personal check or money order to the University of Maryland School of Nursing, Office of Admissions, 655 W. Lombard St., Suite 102, Baltimore, MD 21201-1579. Make the check payable to the “University of Maryland.” If the cardholder or check writer is a person other than the applicant, and the fee has not been applied to your application after two business days, you should contact the Office of Admissions to ensure that your payment is applied correctly.
- Official transcripts. An official transcript from every institution previously attended or currently attending must be submitted to the Office of Admissions in a sealed envelope, as prepared by the sending institution. Electronic transcripts from University System of Maryland institutions will be accepted in lieu of official, sealed transcripts.
- Essay portion. You may submit the essay portion with your online application. We recommend that you compose the essay portion using word processing software and copy and paste it into the text box in the online application. If you do not submit the essay portion online, you should email it to [url=mailto:admissions@son.umaryland.edu]admissions@son.umaryland.edu[/url] or mail it to the Office of Admissions with your other required application documents.
- Typed résumé or CV. Résumés and CVs are to be submitted by email to [url=mailto:admissions@son.umaryland.edu]admissions@son.umaryland.edu[/url]. Be sure to include your full name with your résumé submission.
- Recent letters of recommendation.
- BSN applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from academic sources.
- Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) applicants must submit one letter of recommendation from a faculty member.
- RN-to-BSN applicants must submit two letters of recommendation and at least one must be from an academic source.
- RN-to-MS applicants must submit one letter of recommendation.
- MS applicants must submit one letter of recommendation from a recent professional source.
- DNP applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from sources knowledgeable about their work performance and experience.
- PhD applicants must submit three letters of recommendation from sources knowledgeable about their work performance and experience.

Letters of recommendation must be submitted on the Recommendation Form for BSN and MS Applicants (PDF) or the Recommendation Form for DNP Applicants (Word) forms. The recommender may additionally submit a letter on official company stationery with a valid signature. Recommendations must include the phone number and email address of the recommender. You may submit recommendations to the University of Maryland School of Nursing by email to [url=mailto:admissions@son.umaryland.edu]admissions@son.umaryland.edu[/url] or U.S. mail.
- Application for in-state status classification (if applicable). Applicants who are claiming in-state (Maryland) residency MUST complete the Application for In-State Status Classification. Download, print, and complete the form and submit it by mail.
- Degree requirement (if applicable). Applicants without a degree from a U.S. high school, college, or university must submit official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test scores taken within two years of application.
- Foreign coursework evaluation (if applicable). Applicants currently or previously enrolled in foreign (non-U.S.) coursework must have an official course-by-course evaluation by either World Evaluation Services (WES), Education Credential Evaluators (ECE), or Foreign Education Credential Services (AACRAO).
